Police Chase Ends With Crash, Shots Fired By US Capital

WASHINGTON — Police fired shots at a female suspect who struck a barrier near the White House with her car Thursday afternoon and led police on a car chase that ended near Capitol Hill.

The suspect was pronounced dead soon after the incident, Washington Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier said.

Police located a one-year-old child inside the suspect’s car, a black Infiniti sedan with Connecticut plates.

The pursuit, which began around 2:20 p.m. ET, initially led to a shelter-in-place warning at all U.S. Capitol office buildings, but the warning was later lifted.

A U.S. Capitol Police spokesman said that one officer was injured while pursuing the woman.

“We have no information that this is related to terrorism or is anything other than an isolated incident,” Dine told reporters.
