Bill Russell Statue Unveiling Canceled Due To Weather

The formal unveiling of the statue honoring Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell — originally set for 2 p.m. today — has been canceled because of high winds, the Menino administration said.

While the public ceremony will not be held, a small private unveiling will be held for Russell and other guests, the mayor’s office said. The National Weather Service has warned that wind gusts of up to 50 miles an hour are possible today in Boston.
