Spring Gaming Guide: What You Should Be Playing

As half the country suffers through the winter season that will never end, we must look beyond the high temps to get into the spring-time mood. What better way to get over the winter blues than by checking out the latest and greatest in the video game world, since the temps are keeping you inside anyway. Here’s what’s hot for Spring 2014:

MLB14 The Show: Playstation3, Playstaion 4

The Show is now the only game as the MLB 2k series has folded, but that doesn’t mean that Sony is resting on their laurels. Show series has been so good for so long that there’s really no reason to worry — unless you don’t own a Sony system. Provided you do, you’ll find all sorts of new features, including a handy ‘Quick Count’ that speeds up the pitcher/batter duel and what might be the finest beard-rendering technology in all of gaming.

EA Sports UFC (Spring 2014 | Xbox One, PS4)

While the developer THQ has become extinct, the UFC franchise is proving to a survivor as they have evolved into life as an EA Sports property. Featuring 100 real UFC fighters and running on the company’s fancy new ‘Ignite’ game engine, it hopes to do justice to the immensely popular sport – and with the makers of the great Fight Night series handling its development, there’s reason to believe this one has a shot at the title.

Watch Dogs (Release Date: May 27 | Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

This was one of the most anticipated releases of 2013, unfortunately for gamers, the game has been delayed multiple times, which has lead us to this Spring 2014 release date. The game is set in a near future Chicago where your every move is tracked by the government. You are armed with a super charged smart phone and a few handy guns as you try to survive in this open world thriller.

Mario Kart 8 (Release Date: May 30 | Wii U)

Giving you a reason to dust off the Wii-U, this family friendly game is not just for kids. Mario Cart provides a high paced competitive game while also adding a fun factor only found in Mario based games. Is’ it worth buying a Wii-U for it, no, but if you have one already, it’s a game you should own.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Release Date: April 29 | Most platforms)
Andrew Garfield;Dane DeHaan

If there is one thing that has been a constant in gaming, it’s been the Spider-man Movie games. Whether you have been Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire, the Peter Parker based games have always delivered. This one looks to push their open-world web-slinging even further with a new morality system and a playable Peter Parker, not to mention plenty of villains to take down, including Kraven, Kingpin and Electro.
