Spring Gaming Guide: What You Should Be Playing

As half the country suffers through the winter season that will never end, we must look beyond the high temps to get into the spring-time mood. What better way to get over the winter blues than by checking out the latest and greatest in the video game world, since the temps are keeping you inside anyway. Here’s what’s hot for Spring 2014:

MLB14 The Show: Playstation3, Playstaion 4

The Show is now the only game as the MLB 2k series has folded, but that doesn’t mean that Sony is resting on their laurels. Show series has been so good for so long that there’s really no reason to worry — unless you don’t own a Sony system. Provided you do, you’ll find all sorts of new features, including a handy ‘Quick Count’ that speeds up the pitcher/batter duel and what might be the finest beard-rendering technology in all of gaming.

EA Sports UFC (Spring 2014 | Xbox One, PS4)

While the developer THQ has become extinct, the UFC franchise is proving to a survivor as they have evolved into life as an EA Sports property. Featuring 100 real UFC fighters and running on the company’s fancy new ‘Ignite’ game engine, it hopes to do justice to the immensely popular sport – and with the makers of the great Fight Night series handling its development, there’s reason to believe this one has a shot at the title.

Watch Dogs (Release Date: May 27 | Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

This was one of the most anticipated releases of 2013, unfortunately for gamers, the game has been delayed multiple times, which has lead us to this Spring 2014 release date. The game is set in a near future Chicago where your every move is tracked by the government. You are armed with a super charged smart phone and a few handy guns as you try to survive in this open world thriller.

Mario Kart 8 (Release Date: May 30 | Wii U)

Giving you a reason to dust off the Wii-U, this family friendly game is not just for kids. Mario Cart provides a high paced competitive game while also adding a fun factor only found in Mario based games. Is’ it worth buying a Wii-U for it, no, but if you have one already, it’s a game you should own.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Release Date: April 29 | Most platforms)
Andrew Garfield;Dane DeHaan

If there is one thing that has been a constant in gaming, it’s been the Spider-man Movie games. Whether you have been Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire, the Peter Parker based games have always delivered. This one looks to push their open-world web-slinging even further with a new morality system and a playable Peter Parker, not to mention plenty of villains to take down, including Kraven, Kingpin and Electro.

President Barack Obama Braves Life “Between Two Ferns”

Since President Obama became a force in politics in 2004, he has always made himself available for the media. This week, the President took a bold, brave, and some what bizarre trip to the show “Between Two Ferns” with Zach Galifianakis.

If you have seen the show before, you know that Galifianakis does his best to rattle his celebrity guest with a bizarre line of questioning that sometimes pokes fun at sensitive issues in their lives. With the Commander and Chief on the show it was no different, but the President was able to hold his own and push Healthcare.gov in the process. Check out the interview here.

Educated Insanity

gamezimmerman First off why in the world are we even considering or potentially labeling this dude as a celebrity.

George Zimmerman – the man acquitted of murdering unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin in July 2013 – has signed up to take part in a celebrity boxing match.

Damon Feldman, the promoter organising the bout with the star, has confirmed that the fight will take place on 1 March, and that Zimmerman, who is, according to TMZ ‘open to fighting anyone… Even black people’, will donate any earnings he makes from the bout to charity.

Feldman is yet to find an opponent, but said he wasn’t looking to promote the event as “a race thing”.

“We haven’t discussed purple, yellow, white, black,” he added.

WGPR-TV in Detroit is home to many first, they were the first in the country to use news cameras with tape rather than film, the first US station to air foreign language programs, and the first station to run 24 hours instead of shutting down overnight. Now, two historical groups are teaming up to create a museum exhibit because of another first, WGPR is the first television station owned by African-Americans. The exhibit plans on highlighting all of those contributions to the Detroit TV market.

Along with the Detroit Historical Society, the TV station announced Thursday plans to open the exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum in January of 2016. After the exhibit is done there, it will move to it’s permanent home in a museum planned for WGPR’s old studio in Detroit.

Police Chief Accidentally Shoots himself For a SECOND Time

Educated Insanity

police-stationIf there is at least ONE person in this world that you would expect to be considerably responsible with a firearm and not injure them self, it would be a police officer.

A police chief accidentally shot himself in the leg at a gun store on Saturday, this is the second time the chief has suffered an inadvertent self-inflicted gunshot wound; 15 years ago he shot himself in the hand while cleaning his service weapon.

Connersville, Indiana police chief David Counceller’s most recent self-inflicted wound occurred when his sweatshirt jammed against his 40-caliber Glock’s trigger as he attempted to holster the weapon. He was examining a new Glock at a gun shop at the time.

“It got tangled in my clothing,” Counceller said of his gun, according to the Indy Star. “I was wearing a sweatshirt and a fleece jacket. I felt (the gun) go in the holster and I pushed it, but…
